As you may have heard, Nortel filed for creditor protection in Canada, the United States and Europe. As described in a press release, Nortel took this action to address business and financial challenges, to emerge from this process as a more focused, financially sound and competitive company.

If your organization uses a Nortel phone system, what does this mean to you?

In addition to Nortel's press release to the general public, they have communicated directly to resellers like Latitude CommTech to describe how this impacts us. They have made the following statements:

  • Nortel will remain focused on driving value for partners and customers worldwide
  • Nortel expects to continue normal day-to-day operations without interruption
  • Nortel is dedicated to continuing to provide their partners and customers with the high quality service and support you have come to expect
  • Nortel will continue with R&D investments and support of our product portfolio to fulfill partner and customer needs

Why now?

Nortel acted now as they have sufficient liquidity to run their operations and restructure their business while continuing to deliver innovation for their partners and customers. This process will put Nortel on sound financial footing once and for all, and to strengthen the business for the future. In other words, they made this move while they still had the capability to turn things around.

I believe that Nortel can follow through and use the resources still at their disposal to continue to serve resellers and their customers. I can guarantee that as a reseller of Nortel and other technologies, Latitude CommTech will remain focused on meeting customer needs.
