Last month, I attended a Business Stakeholder Summit, hosted by the Howell Chamber. CEOs and top executives of area companies were invited to attend. The purpose of the event was  to get answers to important questions about Livingston County businesses. Participants took part in electronic polling and a discussion of key issues.

The businesses represented by attendees were mostly businesses, like Latitude CommTech, that could be described as service or professional companies. A wide range of business types, ranging from retail to manufacturing to tourism/hospitality were represented, however.

As someone that attended the summit, I felt a discussion on the business climate and support in Livingston County was most constructive. Most businesses felt they are able to attract the workforce needed to be successful, and the majority of people  want to live and work in the same area. Despite the current economic environment in Michigan, most participants remain positive about the future.

According to the results of the electronic polling, many of the executives do see opportunity for growth in Livingston County and grade it well on different measures. One polling question asked executives why they located their business in Livingston county. The answers were segmented between executives that lived in Livingston and those that did not.

From these results, it appears that businesses feel Livingston is a strategic location with opportunities for growth. For executives living outside Livingston, those two reasons were the most common reasons for locating their businesses in Livingston. Although executives living in Livingston wanted to live and work in the same area, strategic location and growth opportunity were the next most common reasons. (Respondents could select up to three reasons for this question.)

From the Howell Chamber web site, you can download a PDF file that contains the complete results of the electronic polling

Re: Howell Chamber Business Stakeholders Meeting

Interesting results. It is refreshing to see a positive outlook during this time of economic downturn in the automotive sector. Livingston County has many attractive features which is what lured me here 20 years ago!
